Recording at Schools May Be OK

Many states allow the recording of individuals in private settings only with the consent of all parties involved. Maryland is such a state: if you want to record a private telephone call, or use a camera or audio recorder in your office, you want to let people know that’s what you’re doing.

This has rarely if ever bee the case in public settings. If you’re at the basketball game and people shoot pictures of you in the crowd, you have no legal recourse to have those pix pulled from the web or the paper.

But what about inside schools? The Student Press Law Center explains a recent judge’s ruling that says, basically, schools might be considered more public than private.
